Last week we introduced the zippers used on cooler bags, today let’s see another accessory which also used a lot - webbing.
Normally webbing is used for handles, shoulder straps, piping and sometimes used for reinforcement.
There are many different types of webbing, to tell from the materials, there are PP webbing, polyester webbing, cotton webbing, poly-cotton webbing and nylon webbing.
PP webbing used a lot in cooler bag industry, there are different specifications, like 300D, 600D, 900D, 1200D.
Nylon webbing is a little glossy and very soft, pilling resistance, colorfast, without AZO dyes, it can meet OEKO-TEX and REACH standard. It’s more expensive than PP webbing.
To tell from the width, there are 3/8” (1cm), 7/8” (2.2cm), 1” (2.5cm), 1 1/4” (3.2cm), 1 1/2” (3.8cm), 2” (5cm).
To tell from texture, there are plain weave, twill weave, herringbone weave.
For PP plain weave webbing, there are 3 different surface texture. Please see below images for details.
To tell from the thickness, there are 1mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm and etc.
The webbing can be customized any colors you want, normally black and white color are always in stock, in the meantime suppliers have some other regular colors in stock. If you need a certain color and there’s no stock available in the open market, then it will need to custom make, you can advise us the Pantone color number or send us a fabric swatch for color matching. It usually takes 5-7 days to dye the colors.
Sometimes clients want to put logos on the webbing to make the cooler bags more special or unique, it’s completely okay and there are a lot of ways to add logo on webbing. The most simple and popular way is silkscreen printing, it’s suitable for small simple logos with less colors, and it only takes about 3-5 days.
Besides, there are a few other methods to add the logo, for example, jacquard, debossed printing, embossed printing and sublimation printing. Sublimation printing is suitable for full color logo with all over print.
How do we choose the proper webbing for each cooler bag?
First and most importantly, we will consider the cooler bag size and application scenario, if it’s a small lunch bag and do not need to carry heavy items, normally we will use 1” width webbing with normal thickness. If it’s a big cooler bag which need to hold very heavy items, like 24 cans drinks, or 36 cans beers, in this case we will use 1 1/4” or 1 1/2” width thickened webbing to ensure it’s strong enough.
For shoulder straps, we normally use 1 1/2” width webbing, it’s more comfortable when you carry it on your shoulders, especially when you are carrying very heavy items inside.
For piping, we normally use 7/8” width webbing, 900D PP webbing for outer piping, and 300D PP webbing for inside piping.
Secondly, for webbing material, we will consider the clients’ preference and budget. PP webbing is used quite often, it’s strong and economic. Normally for polyester oxford cooler bags, we will use PP webbing and for cotton canvas cooler bags we will use cotton webbing.
Regarding the webbing color, normally it’s matching with the body material color, but sometimes clients requested for contrast colors.
